EUROPEAN INITIATIVE (SELECT MINISTRY LEADERS)

Hungary remains one of the most secular nations in Europe, shaped by 45 years of socialism and marked by significant spiritual and social challenges. Today, only 2.8% of Hungarians identify as evangelical Christians. Divorce rates exceed 60%, while suicide and mental illness rates are among the highest in the European Union. Into this reality, European Initiative has been mobilizing teams since 2007 and, in 2018, established its second base of operations in Budapest.

The EI Budapest staff engages in a wide variety of ministries, including teaching English in public schools (with permission to share the gospel), weekly evangelism outreaches in the city, ministry to the homeless, and home-to-home visits in Roma villages. They are also actively developing a downtown ministry center that will serve as a discipleship hub for students and young adults, offering classes, community engagement, and ongoing opportunities for gospel proclamation. In addition, EI has played a critical role in responding to the war in Ukraine, establishing a supply line that has delivered nearly $1,000,000 in aid.

*Our team’s mission on this trip is to come alongside the Budapest leadership team, listening and learning in order to better understand the scope of their ministry and discern how Recovery Alive might support their vision. This is not a traditional mission trip but a time of relationship-building and partnership exploration. For this reason, the trip is reserved for those already connected to this ministry and committed to the long-term mission of bringing the hope of Christ to one of Europe’s most spiritually needy nations.
